Tha am buidheann òigridh ‘Tàirneanaich’ a tha air an ruith le Iomairt Ghàidhlig Iar Thuath Leòdhais, air a bhith air leth trang thairis na mìosan a chaidh seachad is iad ag ullachadh dealbh cluiche agus a’ togail airgid airson a dhol chun a Mhòid Nàiseanta Rìoghail ann am Pàislig leis!

Chaidh cùisean glè mhath dhaibh aig is iad a’ toirt dhachaigh copan ‘John Niven Anderson Memorial’ airson dealbh cluiche fo aois 19 bliadhna airson an dealbh cluich againn, ‘Suirghe Leis Na Siaraich’.  Rinn iad uabhasach math agus tha sinn gu math pròiseal anns an oidhirp aca agus anns a h-uile duine bhon a sgìre a ghabh pàirt anns na diofar farpaisean, ‘s math a rinn sibh uile!

Am measg nan tachartasan a bh’aca gus airgead a thogail bha; buffet ‘s ceilidh san seann sgoil, consairt ann am Borgh, a’ reic bèicearachd san sgoil agus chaith iad feasgar ‘busking’ ann an Steòrnabhagh!  Bha seo gu lèir air a dhèanamh tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig gus cothrom a thoirt don chloinn an cuid Gàidhlig a leasachadh ’s a leudachadh anns a’ choimhearsnachd.

Bha an t-àm ann airson dèanamh air Pàislig an uairsin agus a h-uile duine air an dòigh glan a bhith còmhla ri chèile sa bhaile mhòr.  Bha tìde ann airson tachartasan a bharrachd air a bhith an sàs sa’ Mhòd! Bha spòrs gu leòr ann an Xscape – na dodgems air an cleachdadh gu math an sin am measg rudan eile agus bha na bùthtean a’ còrdadh ris na màthraichean gu sònraichte!

Bu chaomh leinn taing mhòr a thoirt don a h-uile duine a thàinig a-mach chun na tachartasan againn ron a’ Mhòid, don a h-uile duine a chuidich sinn agus cuideachd, taing mhòr a thoirt do na buidhnean a thug taic-airgid dhuinn a chuidich le cosgaisean an turas, ‘s iad – MG ALBA, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Na Comhairlaichean ionaideal, Clann an Latha an Dè agus Comhairle pàrantan Sgoil Shiaboist.

Thuirt Ceitidh NicGilliosa:     ‘Tha e a’ còrdadh ruim gu mòr a bhith an sàs ann an Tàirneanaich, tha tòrr spòrs againn còmhla.  Bha e math an cothrom fhaighinn a dhol chun a’ Mhòid Nàiseanta leis an dealbh cluich againn agus chòrd e ris a h-uile duine gu mòr!’

Thuirt Duncan Shirkie:   Chòrd an turas gu Pàislig rium oir ‘s e seo a chiad turas agam falbh gu Mòd Nàiseanta. Bha tòrr spòrs againn a dèanamh an dràma agus chòrd e rium a bhith còmhla ris a h-uile duine. Bha sinn toilichte nuair a bhuanaich sinn. Taing mhòr dha Marina agus Iain Murdo agus a h-uile duine a chuidich sinn.

The Gaelic youth group, Tàirneanaich, which is run by Iomairt Gàidhlig Iar Thuath Leòdhais have been very busy over the past few months, practising their play and fundraising in preparation for their trip to the Royal National Mod in Paisley.

Tàirneanaich did extremely well with ‘Suirghe Leis na Siaraich’, taking home the ‘John Niven Anderson Memorial Cup’ for winners of the under 19 play. We are very proud of them and of all those from the area who took part and did so well in the various competitions.

Some of the fundraising efforts included: a family ceilidh/buffet in Shawbost Old School, a concert at Clan MaQuarrie in Borve, a bake sale in Shawbost School and busking in Stornoway.  Gaelic was the language used at these events which gave the group the opportunity to improve and develop their language skills in a community setting.

It was time to set off for Paisley and the Mod. There was some free time for activities as well and the dodgems at Xscape were thoroughly enjoyed by all and the shopping was a big hit with the mums.

We would like to thank everyone who supported our fundraising efforts and helped out in so many ways. We are also indebted to those groups whose donations helped fund our trip –   MG ALBA, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Local Councillors, Clann an Latha an Dè and Shawbost School Parent Council

Katie Gillies “I really enjoy being involved in Tàirneanaich, we have a lot of fun together.  It was great to be able to go to the National Mod with our play, everyone enjoyed it very much”.

Duncan Shirkie  “I enjoyed the trip to Paisley; it was my first time at the National Mod.  We had a lot of fun with the drama and I enjoyed being with everyone.  We were very happy when we won. Many thanks to Marina and Iain Murdo and all those who helped us”.
