Geamannan Oilimpaigeach nan Sradagan!

Tha Sradagan An Taobh Siar, còmhla ri Iomairt Ghàidhlig Iar Thuath Leòdhais, air a bhith gu math fortanach is cothrom air a bhith aca coinneachadh ri sàr luth-chleasaiche, Jenny Nic an t-Sagairt a bha na pàirt den sgioba a bha a’ ruith leis an lasair (torch) oilimpigeach ann an Steornabhagh nas tràithe air a’ bhliadhna.  Fhuair clann na Sradagan cothrom an làmhan fhaighinn air an lasair agus na tiodhlacan sònraichte bho ‘coca-cola’.  Cuideachd, chuala iad mu cho dìcheallach sa dh’fheumas tu a bhith airson a bhith soirbheachail ann an spòrs.  Bha na Sradagan an uairsin an sàs ann an eileamadain de spòrs ‘s iad gan stùireadh fhèin tro ‘assault course’ airson beagan eacarsaich is spòrs!

Chòrd an oidhche ruitha glan is bidh cuimhne aca gu bràth air an cothrom a fhuair iad le bhith a’ cumail an lasair!  Tha Sradagan a’ toirt cothrom do chloinn an sgilean Gàidhlig a leasachadh an co-chomann le òigridh eile. Tha seo gu sònraichte cudromach do chloinn nach eil an lùib a’ Ghàidhlig ach a-mhàin sa sgoil fhèin. Tha Sradagan an Taobh Siar a’ coinneachadh gach Diluain an Sgoil Shiaboist bho 6-7.30f agus bidh fàilte chridheil air Sradagan ùr chùn na seiseanan aca!

Olympic Games at Sradagan

The Westside Sradagan group, along with Iomairt Ghàidhlig Iar Thuath Leòdhais have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet with local athlete Jenny Mactaggart, an Olympic torch bearer in Stornoway this year.  The young people were given a chance to hold the Olympic torch and all the sponsored gifts.  They were told how much effort and hard work is required to be successful in sport.  The Sradagan were then put through their paces in an assault course for a little exercise and fun!

They thoroughly enjoyed the session and will always remember getting to hold the torch!  Sradagan provides an opportunity for children to develop their Gaelic language skills in a social setting. This is particularly important for children whose only other exposure to Gaelic is in School.  Westside Sradagan meet every Monday in Shawbost school from 6-7.30, and a warm welcome will be given to any new Sradagan members who wish to come along.
